Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) completed the first segment of a three-phase runway maintenance and improvement project last month. Phase Two, which began last month, involves temporarily displacing the threshold of 11,500-foot Runway 8/26, allowing 6,000 feet of usable runway and a 1,000-foot overrun. At press time, the runway was scheduled to be closed completely from February 28 until March 1.

Business aircraft cabin specialist MacCarthy Interiors has moved its headquarters to a new and larger facility near Gatwick Airport, about 35 miles south of London. The move essentially doubles its capacity. MacCarthy earlier last year signed an agreement with Harrods Aviation that allows both companies to offer similar interior completion and refurbishment services at their respective locations at London Luton and Stansted Airports.
Heads Up Technologies of Carrollton, Texas, is providing upwash, downwash, aisle and toe-kick LED lighting as standard equipment in Cessna’s Citation X, XLS and Excel production aircraft. Work lights and accent lights in the galley make use of the same technology. The LED system was on display last year in the Citation XLS and Citation X aircraft on static display at the NBAA Convention.
Jet Aviation in Basel, Switzerland, has delivered a second Boeing Business Jet to an undisclosed Middle Eastern customer. “This is the second aircraft that we have completed for this customer… and our craftsmen were able to complete the project within a six-month period to the customer’s specifications and satisfaction,” said senior v-p and general manager Rainer Albecker.
With more than 340 exhibitors signed up by late February, organizers of the fifth Aircraft Interiors Expo 2004 (scheduled to be held from March 30 to April 1 in Hamburg, Germany) expect this show to be the biggest yet, “at least 35 percent bigger than last year.” This year’s show will be highlighted by an interior mockup of the Boeing 7E7 cabin.
Midcoast Aviation of Cahokia, Ill., has received a special regulatory exemption for installation of a mid-cabin door on the Falcon 900B and 900EX. The hard-surface, manually operated pocket door would replace the current curtain separator. A flight-deck annunciator signals the crew when the door is closed, and an emergency decompression panel provides passenger access to an exit door.
