Pentastar Aviation Implements Growth in 2013

Building on the recent FAR Part 145 approval of its new maintenance facility in Oxford, Conn. in the final days of last year, Pentastar Aviation is implementing several growth initiatives this year. The certification allows Pentastar to offer customers a range of aircraft maintenance capabilities on the East Coast.

World Fuel’s Air Elite Bolsters Roster

World Fuel Services announced several additions to its Air Elite FBO network. They are Business Aviation Centre Cologne at Germany’s Cologne/Bonn Airport; St. Thomas Jet Center at Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Lehigh Valley Aviation Services at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, Pa. Air Elite, which was established from most of the former Avitat group, comprises FBOs that are part of the World Fuel Services global network.
Tennessee Welcomes New Bizav Airport

Crystal Air manages the 8,000-sq-ft FBO at newly opened Cleveland Regional Jetport in Tennessee.

Cleveland Regional Jetport held its grand opening on January 25 in Cleveland, Tenn. Intended to replace nearby Hardwick Field, the $42 million project was completed in two years. According to Mark Fidler, the new airport’s director of operations and marketing, Hardwick required replacement because it was cost prohibitive for the city to acquire surrounding residential properties needed to expand the runway beyond its 3,300 feet.

NATA Unveils New Line Service Supervisor Course

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has released a new computer-based training program for line service managers. The NATA Safety 1st Line Service Supervision & Training Management Online program is aimed at providing FBO line service supervisors and managers with tools to become more proficient in lesson planning, staff supervision, communication and leadership skills.

Upstate New York FBO Closes after Lease Dispute

Aviation services provider Richmor Aviation has shuttered its FBO facility at Dutchess County Airport in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., after three decades of operation there. The company also operated a Part 145 repair and overhaul station, a flight school and an aircraft sales and charter operation at the airport. The closure leaves Dutchess Aviation, the county-owned FBO, as the lone service provider on the airport.

Atlantic Wraps Portland Upgrade

Atlantic Aviation recently refurbished its FBO in Portland, Ore., and has plans to remodel several other facilities throughout the year.

Atlantic Aviation has completed a more than $500,000 refurbishment of its Portland (Oregon) International Airport location, the latest in a series of renovations at its FBOs. The three-month-long remodeling project features five separate designated seating areas, an Internet café in the pilot lounge, private data rooms for passengers, two conference rooms with wireless audio-visual capability, a customer coffee bar and complimentary Wi-Fi access. Continuing the design theme seen in its recent facelifts at other locations is the use of natural stone throughout the facility.

Houston FBO To Debut with World’s Largest Canopy

The 32,800-sq-ft canopy at Houston’s Henriksen Jet Center can provide shelter for two BBJs parked side by side.

When its new FBO facility opens in early April, the Henriksen Jet Center at Houston Executive Airport will feature the world’s largest aircraft arrivals canopy. The 32,800-sq-ft structure is large enough to provide shelter for a pair of Boeing Business Jets parked side-by-side. The FBO has operated from temporary trailers since its inception in 2006. The new 22,500-sq-ft terminal at the privately owned business aviation airport will offer 24-hour aircraft fueling, ground handling operations, rental and crew cars, crew lounge, catering services and complimentary wireless Internet access.
ST Engineering’s Aerospace Arm Acquires Volant Aerospace

Singapore Technologies Engineering has completed the acquisition of 100-percent equity interest in Volant Aerospace. Volant provides new and refurbished interior parts and support services to aircraft operators, leasing companies, integrators and maintenance, repair and overhaul service providers.
Kitchener Aero STCs Garmin G500H in Eurocopter EC120

Kitchener Aero Avionics recently STC’d a glass-cockpit option for the Eurocopter EC120.

Kitchener Aero Avionics obtained STC approval for a glass cockpit for the Eurocopter EC120. It includes the Garmin G500H flight display system with helicopter synthetic vision, an attitude heading reference system and air data computer.

Also STC’d in the EC120 are the Garmin GDL69/69A XM weather datalink, an Avidyne TAS-605 traffic awareness system and a Honeywell KRA-405B radar altimeter. All of these additional systems are controlled by and displayed on the G500H. Images from an external video camera or Flir system can also be displayed on the G500H MFD.
Hawker Beechcraft Selects Rusada’s Envision MRO Software

Rusada has locked a contract with Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support (GCS) for the installation and support of its Envision MRO software across all of its Hawker Beechcraft Services facilities in the U.S.

“We are pleased to be extending our relationship with Hawker Beechcraft,” said Julian Stourton, CEO of Rusada. “Hawker Beechcraft has been using the Envision product for four years in its UK service center and concluded that the functionality and savings achieved by the software would be a great asset to its greater organization.”
