The FAA has announced it will delay further the compliance date for a recent Handbook Bulletin for Airworthiness (HBAW), affecting aircraft maintenance program requirements, to allow an existing industry working group to consider the issue.

For general manager Bob Cruey, the recent renovation at Million Air Asheville (N.C.) was finished just in time. He told AIN, “We opened the refurbished terminal building on October 1. That’s our busiest month for visitors–with the fall colors in full bloom.”
Future EPA spill-containment requirements for airport fuel trucks remains an ambiguous subject. That puts FBOs and other fuel-service providers in a difficult position when it comes to laying out plans for their facilities. Despite some recent meetings with aviation interests, the EPA remains unclear on whether or not fuel trucks will be subject to so-called “secondary containment requirements.”
The FAA has determined that a proposed privately funded business aviation airport west of Houston is “objectionable” because it would create overlapping traffic patterns with existing airports, including some private strips and the Class B airspace surrounding George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Still, developer Ron Henriksen of Houston vowed last month to realign the 7,000-foot single runway to assuage the FAA’s concerns.
Mercury Air Centers and TAG Aviation have joined to provide added travel services through Mercury’s FBO network. Mercury customers throughout the U.S. can now use a variety of ancillary services, including charter and management, through TAG Aviation. Mercury president John Enticknap said his FBOs often receive requests from customers for services outside the normal scope of the FBOs’ operations.
As the cold weather settles into the Northeast, construction is advancing well on Million Air Teterboro’s new terminal/hangar complex. Founded in 1958, the FBO recently recast the charter arm of its business as Meridian Air Charter, which will also operate from the new facility.
Teterboro (N.J.) Airport (TEB) now has two full-service U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities with US-VISIT capability located adjacent to Atlantic Aviation (midfield) and at Jet Aviation (south end). The agency said the new capability should improve traffic flow and safety. Although customs already had the facility adjacent
to Jet Aviation, the US-VISIT equipment wasn’t installed until last month.
In the spirit of the season, the NATA Safety First program has made available its aircraft de/anti-icing training module, designed specifically for line techs, ground handlers, flight crews and dispatch personnel. The interactive, online training provides the latest and safest de/anti-icing procedures available. NATA urges personnel to review critical issues such as training, procedures and responsibilities annually.
With next year’s NBAA Convention coming to New Orleans, Atlantic Aviation wanted attendees to know that it is in place at Lakefront Airport (NEW) and ready to serve. The existing Million Air facility is one of the best known in the country, but Atlantic’s Sue Sommers wants customers to know there is an alternative. She told AIN the hangar there is unusual–“like a big ark” with tiled walls and a curved wooden ceiling.
