Eclipse Jet, one of the companies formed to try to buy the assets of bankrupt Eclipse Aviation, has entered into an agreement with logistics and management organization Eclipse Service Network to form a network of third-party U.S. service centers. Eclipse Jet is also in discussions with third-party service providers in Europe to start an equivalent operation there.

Avatas Aerospace has signed an agreement with Precision Turbines to allow the latter to offer maintenance, repair and overhaul services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engines. Precision Turbines provides a variety of products and services for the Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D, PW100 and PT6A and the Rolls-Royce T56. The company offers half-life, overhauled and new engines as well as OEM and PMA parts.

Chromalloy, a supplier of components, PMA parts and specialized component repairs for turbine engines, is investing $16.5 million in an expansion of its Tampa engine component production facility to offer additional casting capabilities. According to Chromalloy president Armand Lauzon, Florida and Hillsborough County approved performance-based tax incentives totaling $585,000 for payment over a period of six years.

The FAA has adopted and/or proposed a series of Airworthiness Directives (ADs) that will affect operators of Honeywell ALF502/507 and TFE731 engines and Sundstrand APUs. ALF502L-2 and L-2C engine compressor discs may have had too much disc balance material removed, which could cause premature fracturing of the disc.

The FAA issued a special airworthiness information bulletin (SAIB NM-09-18) last month warning operators of aircraft equipped with carbon disc brakes that absorbed moisture in the carbon discs can freeze and lock wheels. The SAIB resulted from an incident involving a Bombardier Global Express that flew from Van Nuys, Calif., to London Luton Airport.

Customers who bring their Cessna Citation to Sierra Industries of Uvalde, Texas, for major maintenance or inspection events can now drop off their jet and fly home in a loaner airplane. Under Sierra’s Fly-Thru maintenance program, Citation operators will be supplied an equivalent airplane or Sierra’s Williams International-powered FJ44 Citation, providing an opportunity to see how the modified version flies.

Jet Aviation, which purchased Midcoast Aviation in 2006 and then was bought by General Dynamics last year, announced that Don Petersen is taking over as president of Midcoast Aviation and Jet Aviation’s North America maintenance and completions businesses. Current president Kurt Sutterer is retiring next month after 29 years with Midcoast. He became president of Midcoast in 2004, then took over Jet Aviation’s U.S.
