Under new final rules issued by the FAA, all transport-category (Part 25) aircraft certified henceforth will have to meet requirements “to prevent catastrophic failure due to widespread fatigue damage throughout the operational life.” The rule also applies to existing Part 25 aircraft operated under Part 121 and 129 regulations with an mtow of more than 75,000 pounds.

Twenty years ago Mid-Continent Instruments opened a West Coast facility at Van Nuys Airport in Southern California, starting with a tiny 500-sq-ft building. The company’s West Coast division has grown since then and is now housed in a 15,000-sq-ft facility.
ExecuJet Aviation is moving into a new facility in Malaysia, having entered into a joint venture with local company Dnest Aviation Services. On October 31, the Switzerland-based business aviation services group ended its existing arrangements with the Subang SkyPark FBO and moved into new premises on the other side of Kuala Lumpur's Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (also known as Subang).
Chinese air carriers and regulators made positive comments about FAA-approved PMA parts at the Independent and Alternative Materials Conference held in China from November 11 to 12. The conference was sponsored jointly by Heico and Chromalloy and attracted about 80 participants from Chinese airlines, according to the Modification and Replacement Parts Association (Marpa).
The FAA has issued a proposed policy change that would clarify the definition of the words "actively engaged" as they relate to application for and renewal of the Inspection Authorization (IA) certificate. Airframe and powerplant mechanics (A&Ps) can qualify to take the IA test if they have held their mechanic certificate for at least three years and have been "actively engaged" as a mechanic for the previous two.
