BBA Aviation’s engine repair and overhaul (ERO) company H+S Aviation has been awarded distributor and designated overhaul facility (DDOF) authorization for repair and overhaul of all Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T TwinPac engines. This engine is installed primarily on Bell and Agusta/Bell 212 and 412 helicopters.
The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has issued a special bulletin concerning the April 1 crash of a Eurocopter AS 332L2 Super Puma in the sea near Peterhead, Scotland. The investigation has determined that a failure within the epicyclic reduction gearbox module of the main rotor gearbox caused the rupture of the gearbox case, which allowed the main rotor head to separate from the helicopter.
The FAA has authorized American Eurocopter to operate under the new organization designation authorization (ODA) program. The ODA allows American Eurocopter to act on behalf of the agency when approving and issuing supplemental type certificates (STCs). “This designation will allow us to be more responsive to market demands and significantly improve our reactiveness to our customers’ requirements.
The FAA has issued an airworthiness directive (AD 2009-15-03) for Bombardier Global Express BD-700-1A10s and BD-700-1A11s. According to the AD, a bolt that connects the power control unit (PCU) to the elevator surface was found fractured in the assembly during a scheduled maintenance inspection.
