As the economy slowly improves, the industry is again experiencing a shortage of technical personnel, and many MROs are finding that the demand for service exceeds their capacity to provide it. Chicago-based AAR has gone on the road recruiting for 200 technical positions in the Duluth, Minn. facility, and Premier Aviation of Trois-Rivieres, Canada, is also feeling the pinch.

ExecuJet Nigeria in Lagos has been named a Bombardier Aerospace line maintenance facility. The designation includes the Challenger 300, Challenger 604, Challenger 605, Global 5000, Global 6000, Global Express and Global Express XRS. The facility will complement ExecuJet’s center in Lanseria, South Africa, which has been part of Bombardier’s authorized service facility network since 2002.
ExecuJet has been providing maintenance services for business aviation in Lagos for the last year and for more than 10 years at its Lanseria International Airport location in Johannesburg.
In ruling on a request by Hawker Beechcraft to “reject certain [warranty support] agreements related to the Hawker 4000 and Premier I and IA,” bankruptcy court judge Stuart Bernstein decided last week to grant the motion in part, and deny it in part.
Smyrna Air Center, of Rutherford County Airport in Smyrna, Tenn., has delivered the world’s first King Air C90 powered by General Electric’s new H80 800-shp engines. The 1974 King Air C90 (LJ-627) was fitted with two new engines, two new Avia V510 five-blade quiet propellers, dual Garmin G600 MFD/PFD/AHRS, ADS-B compliant Garmin GTX-330ES mode-S transponder, Garmin GWX-70 color radar, Garmin 530W GPS and a GDL-69 satellite weather downlink.
The Aeronautical Repair Station Association (Arsa) has launched a new survey to measure the impact of the ban on new foreign repair station certificates. The ban is the result of the U.S. Congress prohibiting the FAA from acting on foreign repair station certificate applications submitted after Aug. 3, 2008, because the Transportation Security Administration had not finalized repair station security rules.
Winnipeg, Canada-based Cadorath Aerospace has expanded its engineering department to broaden its offerings for Bell helicopter repairs. Last year, Cadorath’s engineering team developed 178 new extended repairs for Bell helicopters. Cadorath says this growth in the list of Bell repairs, as well as expansion of the engineering team, puts it on schedule to perform more repairs this year.
Duncan Aviation’s parts consignment program sold $1.07 million in consignment parts and rotables last year and saw the number of consigners increase by nearly 30 percent. Customer parts are stored in Duncan’s warehouse until sold. During the process, the consigner retains title to the inventory. Duncan Aviation also protects the consignor in case the purchaser defaults on payment and maintains insurance against casualty and subsequent loss.
Both CAE and FlightSafety International have been awarded a Falcon Training Policy Manual certificate by Dassault, allowing the training service providers to offer instruction for Falcon pilots and maintenance personnel. CAE delivers training for the Falcon 10; 50/50EX; 100; 900B/C/EX/EX EASy/EX EASy II; 2000/EX/EX EASy; and 7X. FlightSafety training includes the Falcon 10/100, Falcon 20/20-5, Falcon 50/EX; Falcon 200; Falcon 2000/DX/LX/EX/EX EASy, Falcon 900/C/DX/EX/EX EASy/LX; and 7X.
Dallas Airmotive has restructured its sales force to align personnel with customer base locations. Each sales person now represents the entire product line so customers have one point of contact. As a result of the restructuring, Jim Blasingame is senior sales director and will handle major accounts, OEM relationships and sales support. Territorial directors include Jeff Turner (Western U.S.), Jeff Dunn (Central U.S.), Randy Sasser (Southeast U.S.) and Mike Frazier (Northeast U.S.). Mark Russo will take the position of program director for APU products.
BBA Aviation has promoted Peg Billson to president and CEO of the BBA Aviation Aftermarket Services division. It is composed of Ontic, Dallas Airmotive, Premier Turbines, H+S Aviation, International Turbine Service, W.H. Barrett Turbine Engine Company, International Governor Services and APPH. In her new role, Billson assumes overall leadership responsibility for the division and will continue to serve on the BBA Aviation Executive Committee.
