Cessna Aircraft has acquired Jet Aviation’s maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in Zurich, Switzerland, and Düsseldorf, Germany. The OEM had recently renewed their designations as authorized service facilities. Both facilities went into operation as Cessna Citation Service Centers on January 1. Under the terms of the agreement, Jet Aviation will continue operating the FBO facilities at both locations.

As of January 1 the FAA’s Airmen Certification branch began issuing mechanic and repairman certificates with a new design on the back of the certificate honoring Charles E. Taylor, who served as the Wright brothers’ mechanic and is credited with building the engine for the 1903 Wright Flyer. Since the introduction of the updated airman certificate in 2003, the mechanic and repairman community has requested that the FAA issue a certificate that represents Taylor’s contributions.
A 22,000-sq-ft facility has been added to Legacy Aviation Services’ C.E. Page Airport complex outside Oklahoma City. It almost doubles the MRO’s maintenance and modification shop space. According to the company, the decision to add more service area comes as Legacy is responding to a growing customer base.
GE Aviation has named Turkey’s MNG Jet an authorized service center for the CF34-3, which powers the large-cabin Bombardier Challengers (excluding the original 600 series). With this agreement, MNG Jet can perform line maintenance inspections and removal and replacement of engines and engine components.
Embraer Executive Jets has launched the Embraer Executive Care (EEC) Engine Add-On option, which complements the EEC and the Eagle Service Plan (ESP) programs. The new EEC Engine Add-On option helps Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 operators to streamline and simplify invoice and payment processes, addressing what Embraer says is one of its customers’ main concerns.
GE announced it has agreed to purchase the aviation business of Avio, an Italy-based manufacturer of aviation propulsion components and systems for civil and military aircraft, for $4.3 billion.GE will acquire Avio’s aviation business from Cinven, the European private equity firm that has owned Avio since 2006, and Finmeccanica, the Italian aerospace group. The acquisition of Avio’s aviation business, which provides components for GE Aviation and other engine companies, would further GE’s participation in jet propulsion.
Jet Support Services (JSSI) announced Neil Book has been named president and CEO, and Louis Seno will serve as chairman emeritus and special advisor to the board of directors. Robert Book will act as chairman of the board and industry veteran Bryan Moss and Joe DaGrosa will both serve as vice chairmen of the board. Susan Marr continues as a member of the board, general counsel and chief administrative officer of JSSI, as well as chief executive officer of Aviation Insurance, an affiliate of JSSI.
Kitchener Aero Avionics has developed and obtained STC approval for a glass cockpit for the Eurocopter EC120 helicopter. It includes the Garmin G500H flight display system with helicopter synthetic vision, an attitude heading reference system and air data computer. Also STC’d in the EC 120 are the Garmin GDL69/69A XM weather datalink, an Avidyne TAS-605 traffic awareness system and a Honeywell KRA-405B radar altimeter. All of these additional systems are controlled by and displayed on the G500H.
Cleveland, Ohio-based Constant Aviation has named Lance Lajara to the position of large fleet account manager. Lajara has more than 15 years’ experience in the aviation industry and most recently was customer care manager with Honeywell. During his tenure at Honeywell he held numerous roles covering quality, operations, logistics and customer service. “Adding a dedicated account manager who understands the large fleet operator’s expectations and processes will provide the best level of service,” said Stephen Maiden, the MRO’s president.
The FAA is revising an earlier proposed airworthiness directive for the Eurocopter BO105A/C/LS/LS A-3 and 105S. The earlier AD proposed inspecting for debonding of the erosion protective shell (abrasion strip) on the leading edge of each main rotor blade. This SNPRM proposes to revise those inspection requirements by identifying specific dates of replacement of the applicable parts and identifying a specific inspection method to discover debonding of an abrasion strip.
