AFI KLM E&M has been awarded CCAR 145 approval by the Civil Aviation Administration of China for its Shanghai components maintenance shop. After a final audit carried out last month, during which the Chinese authorities inspected management systems, processes, technical manuals and technician qualifications, the workshop was granted approval as a maintenance organization on Chinese soil.

Kaunas, Lithuania-based FL Technics is implementing a $15 million MRO development plan that will create almost 300 new jobs, including more than 200 aircraft mechanics, engineers and other aviation technical personnel supporting commercial and business aviation customers. The company is focusing on operators from Europe, the CIS and Asia-Pacific.
Plans for a new 40,000-sq-ft paint hangar at West Star Aviation’s Grand Junction Regional Airport facility in Colorado are moving ahead, despite apparent fiscal problems facing the airport authority.
West Star had reached an agreement with the airport authority to build the paint hangar, after which the authority would issue an $8 million bond, purchase the hangar from West Star and then lease it back to the company.
Clay Lacy Aviation (CLA) is on track for certification of a Universal Avionics Fans-1/A+, CPDLC, Link 2000+ and ADS-B solution for the Gulfstream IV and GIV-SP. Installation in the initial certification aircraft is scheduled to begin in January, with supplemental type certification (STC) expected in April.
CLA is working with Envoy Aerospace on the certification process and plans to install and sell the STC solution at its Van Nuys, Calif. facility, as well as make it available to qualified Universal Avionics authorized dealers.
Gulfstream Aerospace recently marked the first anniversary of its 82,000-sq-ft Beijing service center at Beijing Capital International Airport. It is the only business-jet manufacturer to offer factory service in China.
“It has been a successful first year for Gulfstream Beijing,” said Mark Burns, president of product support. “We have experienced steady growth and have expanded our capabilities. As the Gulfstream fleet continues to grow in the Asia-Pacific region, we’ll look for ways to enhance and add to the services we provide at Gulfstream Beijing.”
Heli-One has enhanced its website so customers can go to its helicopter Exchange Parts Inventory Channel (Epic) pages. The Epic feature enables customers to do more by connecting them to two searchable databases: Heli-One’s exchange component pool database or its surplus parts inventory database of almost 1,900 items.
Jet Aviation Teterboro received FAA approval to perform base, line, repair and overhaul maintenance support for the Gulfstream G650. The authorization also extends to Jet Aviation’s Cayman and Bermuda AMOs and EASA repair station authorities. “We have made a significant investment in tooling, training and data to support the needs of our clients moving to this new aircraft type,” said David Smith, director of quality assurance, MRO services.
Duncan Aviation named Scott Heath manager of Duncan Aviation Sacramento and Duncan Aviation Hayward avionics satellites, located at Sacramento Mather and Hayward Executive airports. Heath has been with Duncan Aviation since 1998, most recently serving as an avionics team leader over the last 10 years for both the Fort Worth and Dallas avionics satellites. Before that, he worked as an avionics installation technician at the Duncan Aviation MRO facility in Lincoln, Neb.
Air Tractor announced a new airframe and engine warranty policy to mark the company’s 40th anniversary and to commemorate 50 years of Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PT6A engine. The new Air Tractor airframe warranty covers one year or 500 hours, plus two years or 1,000 hours on major structural components. Air Tractor has coupled this with an extended warranty on all PT6As for 2014 deliveries. This offer extends the PT6A warranty to 2,500 hours or five years.
Vector Aerospace Engine Services Atlantic named Malcolm Venturi as regional sales and service manager for southern and western Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. According to the company, Venturi has more than 22 years of technical and hands-on aviation experience coupled with a “deep knowledge of the Australian and Asia –Pacific aviation markets.” Venturi will provide support for fixed-wing operators flying with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A, JT15D, PW100 and PW150A engines.
