West Star Aviation was recently recognized by the Department of Defense for its continued support of its National Guard and Reserve employees. The recognition comes from the MRO’s commitment to the support of troops as they are called into action and its willingness to prepare and integrate the people back into their team upon their return. Colonel Lou Brackett (Ret.), the Employer Outreach Coordinator for the State of Colorado, presented the award.

Signature Flight Support celebrated the launch of its sixth Signature TechnicAir at Washington Dulles International Airport early this month, at the same time announcing the facility’s certification as an Embraer authorized service center. TechnicAir Dulles will perform maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the full line of Embraer business jets.
Michelin and the FAA Safety Program (FAAST) have partnered to offer pilots and aircraft maintenance technicians a free online tire maintenance course titled The Impact of Tire Maintenance on Aircraft Safety. “Tire maintenance is often overlooked in aviation; this course will help reinforce this important part of aviation safety,” said Brad Beall, Michelin Aircraft Tire zone director for North and South America.
Dassault Falcon is offering its FalconBroadcast airborne aircraft health-monitoring service for the in-production Falcon 900LX, Falcon 2000LX and the new Falcon 2000LXS. In service EASy aircraft can have their service activated at any Dassault Falcon authorized service center.
UK-based Satair has opened an FAA-approved battery repair shop in Atlanta. The facility is designed to service nickel-cadmium and sealed lead-acid aircraft batteries of various models and sizes manufactured by Saft, Marathon, Concorde, Gill Teledyne and Hawker as well as smaller aircraft battery packs. The new shop will also hold inventory of battery parts for service and be supported by Satair’s regional and global battery support organization.
Aircraft cleaning provider Immaculate Flight acquired Pro Guard Aircraft Detailing, adding Southeast Florida to Immaculate Flight’s existing 11-state, 80-airport service area.
Beringer Wheels & Brakes is offering a corrosion-resistant two-piece nosewheel for the DHC-6 Twin Otter. Designed using 3-D FEM software, it is said to stand up to severe use, including wet environments, by sealing the bearings to keep water out. “This alloy wheel is stronger and much less brittle [than the original],” said president Gilbert Beringer.
Web Manuals Sweden has launched its Web Manuals Reader for the iPad on the Apple App Store. The EASA-compliant Web Manuals Reader provides instant access to all relevant manuals, documents, notices and forms. Users can navigate large documents using visual chapter overviews while smart modules facilitate cross-reference links and revision highlights. Documents are updated automatically through a controlled synchronization with the Web Manuals application, which allows easy and efficient writing and publishing of aviation manuals.
Bombardier Aerospace appointed Ian Ludlow general manager of its Amsterdam service center. He has 30 years’ experience in commercial and business aircraft operations and maintenance from numerous management and consulting roles within the UK and Europe. Ludlow, who will focus on building strong relationships within the operator community and with regulatory authorities, is known for successfully managing aftermarket supply chains, international deployment and business development.
DAC International received an STC for the installation of DAC’s GDC64 tablet aircraft interface unit on the Bombardier Learjet 60. The interface device, which does not require Wi-Fi, feeds data from aircraft sensors and systems to tablets enabling a wide range of incremental functionality for the flight crew. The iPad or tablet plugs into connectors located in the cockpit to get data and power during flight. DAC also recently received European approval for the GDC64 on the Bombardier Dash-8.
