Airline Transport Professionals (ATP), a Jacksonville, Fla.-based organization that provides advanced pilot training at 23 flight schools nationwide, reported at AOPA Expo yesterday that it purchased 20 Diamond D-Jets and five Diamond flight training devices. In addition, Diamond Aircraft and ATP formed a partnership in which ATP will provide factory-approved initial type ratings and recurrent training on the single-engine very light jet.

At AOPA Expo yesterday Piper announced it had selected a variant of the Williams International FJ44-3A turbofan to power its new PiperJet. The Fadec-equipped FJ44-3AP will have a maximum thrust rating of 3,000 pounds but will be derated to 2,400 pounds for use in the new single-engine very light jet. Piper plans to fly the PiperJet in spring 2008 and start deliveries in 2010.
Cessna said the FAA cleared the Citation Mustang for flight into known icing two months after the new entry-level jet received FAA type certification on September 8. “While approval for flight into icing is not required for certification of the airplane, we wanted to have this in place prior to delivering our first Mustang and in advance of this year’s major icing season,” said Cessna chairman, president and CEO Jack Pelton.
According to ExcelAire, the Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based charter company whose Embraer Legacy 600 was involved in the midair collision with a 737 over Brazil on September 29, a court in Brazil has issued a preliminary order, the purpose of which is to “render inalienable” any assets of ExcelAire that may be located in Brazil. “The practical effect of the order is limited to preventing the sale of the damaged Legacy jet,” according to the company.
