Eurocopter yesterday at EBACE unveiled the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style, a version of the light twin helicopter that features aesthetic and practical changes to both the interior and exterior. The cabin can seat up to eight passengers in a business layout or can be reduced to four places to accommodate more cargo, thanks to cabin seats mounted on rails that facilitate configuration changes.

Although the inventory of pre-owned business aircraft is slowly being reduced, it’s still a buyer’s market, according to aviation market intelligence provider JetNet. In the first quarter, 2,800 business jets were listed for sale, representing 15.6 percent of in-service jets. That figure is down from a high of 17.7 percent in July 2009.

BAE Systems has contracted with Design Q to develop five concepts for the Avro Business Jet (ABJ) and revealed the first of the new designs–the ABJ Explorer–yesterday at EBACE. A unique design element of the Explorer is the “Air Deck” viewing platform adapted from the cargo side-door modification.

Ocean Sky is accelerating its plans to become a major international business aviation services group with the acquisition this month of FBO operations in Spain and Italy. The UK-based company has just completed the takeover of Spain’s Aviation Handling Assistance (AHA) and has signed a letter of intent to buy a controlling stake in Euroloa, an established FBO at Bologna in Italy.

During the opening session yesterday, European Business Aviation Association president and CEO Brian Humphries welcomed attendees to “a very special EBACE, which has as its theme celebrating the global reach of business aviation.” While reflecting on the achievements of the last 10 years, “We must focus on the challenges and opportunities of the future,” he noted.
