At EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., this week, Avidyne introduced its new low-cost FMS400, which provides flight management system functionality but without WAAS precision approach capability. Like the WAAS-capable FMS900w, the FMS400 includes Avidyne’s GeoFill and FMSVectors functions; the FMS can later be upgraded to an FMS900w if desired. The FMS900w includes an FMS keyboard, which is optional on the FMS400.

As of tomorrow, charter/management company Sunset Aviation LLC officially becomes Solairus Aviation. “It’s not a launch as much as a rebranding by people who have been in this business for a long time,” said Solairus president and CEO Dan Drohan.

The new owner of Adam Aircraft said this week at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., that he plans to decide whether to place a modified version of the A500 push-pull twin into production by year-end.

RotorWay unveiled a new production turbine trainer helicopter yesterday at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The Eagle 300T will be powered by a Rolls-Royce RR300 similar, but not identical, to the engine powering the Robinson R66. RotorWay CEO Grant Norwitz said the new helicopter will cost “more than a Robinson R22 and less than a Robinson R66.” Company officials said they expect the 300T to be certified before the end of 2011.

Jay Johnson, the new president and CEO of Gulfstream parent company General Dynamics, said yesterday during an investor conference that he is “encouraged right now” about the “gradually improving” business jet market. As proof, he noted that Gulfstream fleet flying hours are increasing and new order interest is improving.
