PPG Industries aerospace transparencies business and Gentex will be providing electrochromic window systems to Hawker Beechcraft as standard equipment for the manufacturer’s 2010 King Air 350i cabin windows. The PPG-Gentex system–dubbed Alteos–replaces the mechanical shade system, allowing passengers to control the visible light transmittance of a dimmable panel between the inboard dust cover and outboard structural cabin window.

While the rest of the world continues to struggle in the grip of an economic crisis, the recent Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (Labace) suggests that business aviation in Latin America, and Brazil in particular, is healthy and growing. Labace 2009’s record log of 13,342 visitors was 1,212 more than the previous year, not to mention the healthy list of 110 exhibitors.
In a hearing of the lawsuit filed by Blue Sky Avgroup against kit-airplane developer Epic Air, a federal judge on Tuesday agreed with both the plaintiff’s and defendant’s request that a receiver be appointed. Within about 45 days, the receiver is expected to provide a report and then Epic Air and sister companies Aircraft Completions Services and Aircraft Investor Resources will file for bankruptcy.
Sikorsky Aircraft yesterday said it has begun whirl testing a demonstration rotor system with active flaps as part of the company’s “commitment to design, develop, test and ultimately field next-generation technologies that will advance the current state of rotorcraft.” Development partners on the project are United Technologies Research Center for the blades and Hamilton Sundstrand Claverham for the flap actuators.
Business jet valuations for pre-mid-1990 models are in “dire straits” and likely will never recover, Conklin & de Decker vice president and co-owner David Wyndham said in the company’s latest e-newsletter.
