Pre-owned business jet and turboprop inventories continued to subside in February, according to data released today by market information firm JetNet. Inventory of used business jets fell to 13.9 percent in February, down 0.4 percentage points from the year-ago period. Business jet sales transactions rose 7.7 percent year-over-year, while at the same time asking prices rose 3 percent. Average days on the market for a business jet dropped to 346 days, down 82 days from February last year.
FlightSafety International announced yesterday that it is again offering its proficiency protection program for 2012. The program is intended to help laid-off business aircraft pilots and maintenance technicians maintain their proficiency by providing no-cost training.
To be eligible, pilots and technicians must have lost their jobs as a result of a staff reduction or job elimination that occurred after January 1 this year. In addition, they must have been training under a FlightSafety full-service contract at the time of the involuntary job loss.
The Falcon 2000S has completed its first year of flight testing, having logged “nearly 300 flight hours in more than 100 flights,” Dassault announced yesterday. The twinjet so far has confirmed its “expected performance.”
Features include inboard slats and an autobrake system that allow shorter landings.
Embraer’s business aircraft deliveries declined to 99 last year from 144 in 2010, according to the Brazilian OEM’s fiscal-year 2011 and fourth-quarter 2011 results, released recently. Embraer Executive Jets’ share of total company revenue dropped to 19 percent last year from 23 percent in 2010. The company delivered 50 business jets (more than half the annual total) in last year’s fourth quarter, 11 fewer than for the same period in 2010.
A new Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90GTx delivered on Monday was ditched into the ocean some 17 miles north of Oranjestad, Aruba, the following day during the ferry flight to Brazil. An NTSB spokesman told AIN that the two Brazilian nationals flying the twin turboprop were unharmed in the ditching and subsequent rescue by the Dutch navy. The pilots declared an emergency after both engines lost power, said the NTSB, which is investigating the accident. The King Air sank in 4,000 feet of water.
Bombardier Aerospace announced on Tuesday that Arab Wings of Amman, Jordan is the first operator in the Middle East to take delivery of a Global 5000, which features the Bombardier Global Vision flight deck. The new Global joins Arab Wings’ fleet of business jets, which also includes a Challenger 604 and 605. The Vision flight deck is based on the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics suite.
Airbus logged its first corporate jet sale in Japan this week, adding a new customer and building its presence in the Asia-Pacific market. The aircraft, an Airbus ACJ318, will go to a customer whose identity remained undisclosed. “Our first Airbus Corporate Jet sale in Japan builds on the growing presence of our modern airliner family, as well as encouraging greater use of business jets to help grow what is, today, the world’s third-largest economy,” said Airbus COO for customers John Leahy.
The Diamond DA52 twin diesel made its first flight on Tuesday afternoon from the company’s headquarters in Neustadt, Germany. Diamond Aircraft chairman Christian Dries and head of flight-test Ingmar Mayerbuch were at the controls of the Austro Engine AE300E-powered airplane. No abnormalities were reported during the one-hour test flight. Diamond has not yet released a timetable for certification or production of the new seven-seat twin.
Eurocopter expects to ramp up production of the EC225 medium twin and AS350 Ecureuil light single by 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively, at its Marignane, France factory. For “better reactivity,” it has signed an agreement with Segula Technologies to take over the latter’s “structure assembly” activity in the neighboring city of Aix-en-Provence.
