Cessna has firmed up its plans to build business jets in China by sealing a joint venture with China Aviation Industry General Aircraft Company Ltd. (Caiga) to assemble and sell Citation XLS+ models for the Chinese market.
China’s Nanshan Jet placed an order for a Gulfstream G650 today at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. The charter operator, with bases in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, is a subsidiary of the Nanshan Group. It is expected to take delivery of the new very-high-speed, ultra-long-range jet in late 2014 or early 2015 and is third G450 next year.
EADS Innovation Works, Airbus and clean-energy focused Chinese company ENN announced today at Airshow China 2012 that they are collaborating on a research competition, dubbed “Join The Spirit,” for sustainable energy technologies. The competition is designed to ignite the imagination of students in China to help develop sustainable energy technologies for the aviation industry and beyond, according to Airbus China senior vice president Eric Chen.
Hongkong Jet announced today at Airshow China 2012 that it is adding a fourth Airbus Corporate Jet ACJ to its managed aircraft fleet. According to the company, this makes Hongkong Jet one of the largest operators of Airbus ACJs in the region. The company has added 12 aircraft within the last 12 months.
China Southern selected a comprehensive package of Rockwell Collins avionics for 16 new Airbus A330 aircraft, signing the agreement in a ceremony at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai today. The deal includes Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Threat Detection System; the GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), the industry’s first MMR certified for precision landing using either satnav or instrument landing systems; and SAT-2100 satellite communications system.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has approved the increased maximum gross weight for the Bell 429, Bell Helicopter announced today at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. This approval makes China the 12thcountry to endorse the increased maximum gross weight for the Bell 429 based on Transport Canada’s certification. Transport Canada approved operation of the Bell 429 at 7,500 pounds (3,400 kg) in January after an extensive technical evaluation.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China issued Embraer with a type certificate for its Phenom 300 light jet on the first day of Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. The Chinese authorities have now approved all five of the Brazilian manufacturer’s in-production business aircraft. Embraer China president Guan Dongyuan told a press conference that to date it has sold 28 of these (plus options for five more) to customers in China.
Boeing has agreed to help Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) to expand the state-owned company’s ability to supply interiors commodities such as passenger seats, galleys, lavatories and in-flight entertainment systems for commercial airplanes.
Comac has received 50 more commitments for its new C919 narrowbody airliner. Three contracts announced on the first day of Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai call for 20 each of the twinjet to go to Chinese carriers Joy Air and Hebei Aviation, with 10 more signed for by leasing group Gecas. But the first flight of the C919 now seems likely to be pushed back again due to a new delay with Comac’s ARJ21 regional airliner development.
