France has chosen the Israeli Heron TP as its next surveillance UAV....

French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet said a French version of the IAI Heron TP will serve as the country’s Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) surveillance UAV from 2014 until 2020, when it will be replaced by the Anglo-French Telemos system.

Embraer announced that the V2500 commercial turbofan produced by the International Aero Engines (IAE) consortium will power its twin-engine KC-390 tanker/transport now in development. IAE president and CEO Ian Aitken said the choice “substantially opens a market [in which] we have not done business  before.” The V2500-E5 engine was competing against the CFM56 for the Embraer KC-390 application.

South Korea is pushing ahead with the third phase of its fighter recapitalization program, and the short-listed candidates include the Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA fifth-generation fighter. It was nominated alongside the Eurofighter Typhoon, Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II and Boeing F-15SE Silent Eagle for the FX-III requirement, which seeks 60 multirole fighters for around $7.86 billion.

India confirmed that it will upgrade its 51 Mirage 2000H fighters, and entered final negotiations with Thales, which will act as prime contractor. The long-delayed deal has been controversial in India because of cost, and the 20- to 25-year age of most of the airframes. Thales would not comment on Indian media reports that the contract could be worth $2.4 billion.

Goodrich signed an agreement to distribute an electronic fuel injection system developed by Australian firm Currawong Engineering. Currawong’s Small Engine Electronic Fuel Injection System (SEEFIS) can “dramatically increase” the reliability and fuel efficiency of small internal combustion engines in UAVs that run on gasoline or heavy fuels such as JP8, the companies say.
