Current Pinnacle Airlines COO John Spanjers will replace Sean Menke as chief executive of the Memphis, Tennessee-based regional airline group on June 1, Pinnacle said in a statement issued Thursday. Menke, who, according to Pinnacle, has chosen to resign from the company, has agreed to help with the leadership transition over the next five weeks.

Hallett Award on Thursday. “Russ’s critical leadership role at the intersection of aviation, business, policy and philanthropy exemplifies the spirit of the Chamber and all it embodies,” said AOPA senior vice president of government affairs Melissa Rudinger. Meyer, who served as a fighter pilot with both the USAF and USMC and spent more than three decades at Cessna, previously received NBAA’s Meritorious Service to Aviation Award, among many other accolades.

A retired U.S. Naval Aviator with more than 25 years of experience, including chief test pilot for a variety of naval aircraft and weapons systems, Huff reports directly to company president Larry Flynn.

Meridian Jet Center was recently presented with two PAMA aviation achievement awards, the Carl Krajewski Award and the Maintenance Department of the Year Award. The association’s Carl Krajewski Award was presented to Robert “Bob” Kennedy, a 45-year aircraft maintenance veteran who has been with Meridian for the last five years. The second award was presented to Meridian Jet Center for Maintenance Department of the Year.

Dassault Falcon promoted Jean-Michel Jacob to senior vice president of international sales. In his new position, he will oversee all sales activity for Dassault Falcon in Asia, the Pacific Rim and South America. Jacob, who has worked for the French aircraft manufacturer in several sales capacities since 1987, will be based in Beijing. He was named vice president of international sales in 2005 and established the company’s Asian sales headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2007.

Gulfstream Aerospace appointed Thomas Huff to the newly created position of aviation safety officer. A retired U.S. Navy test pilot with more than 25 years of experience, Huff reports directly to company president Larry Flynn. Huff will oversee a comprehensive aviation safety program for all Gulfstream flight operations, including experimental test, production test, demonstration and corporate flights. He will provide independent safety oversight and promote aviation safety and awareness throughout the company, Gulfstream said.

The employees of Gulfstream Aerospace held a moment of silence today to mark the one-year anniversary of the crash of a flight-test G650 in Roswell, N.M., that claimed the four-man crew. Killed in the April 2, 2011, accident were test pilots Kent Crenshaw, 64, and Vivan Ragusa, 51, and technical specialists David McCollum, 47, and Reece Ollenburg, 48. An NTSB investigation into the accident continues.

On Tuesday, President Obama nominated acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta to lead the agency for a full five-year term. He was tapped as the acting chief in early December, after now-former FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt resigned in the wake of a drunk-driving arrest in Northern Virginia.
