Rockwell Collins has signed a series of contracts to supply the Bristow Group, SunExpress Airlines and Iberia Airlines with various avionics equipment. This includes TCAS for Bristow’s 44 Sikorsky helicopters and a package to allow the airline customers to comply with Eurocontrol’s Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) requirement.

So far Rockwell Collins (Chalet B19, Hall 2B D108) has equipped 24 Bristow helicopters with its TTR-4000 TCAS II system. Over the next year Rockwell Collins expects to install on the rest of the Bristow Sikorsky fleet the next-generation TTR-4100, which adds traffic computer capability and enables ADS-B IN functionality.

Separately, SunExpress–a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines–plans to retrofit its entire fleet of Boeing 737s with Rockwell Collins’s Link 2000+, consisting of the company’s VHF-2100 VHF transceiver, CMU-900 communications management unit, APM-900 aircraft personality module and CPDLC-enabling software.

Finally, the deal with Iberia involves a plan to upgrade the airline’s entire single-aisle fleet with the VHF-2100, a multi-mode data radio that provides full digital voice and data communications such as ACARS and VHF data link Mode 2.

By early 2015, all transport aircraft that operate above 28,000 feet in Europe must meet CPDLC requirements as part of Eurocontrol’s Link 2000+ program to increase air traffic management capacity. Rockwell Collins has designed the VHF-2100 with enough memory, microprocessor power and advanced radio frequency technology to meet the mandate.
