Qatar Airways signs MRO agreements with Lufthansa
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker and Lufthansa Technik CEO August Henningsen yesterday celebrated the signing of agreements whereby Lufthansa will provide engine maintenance and live TV installations for select aircraft operated by the Arabian flag carrier.
Valued at more than $100 million, the deals add engine maintenance, repair and overhaul service for 17 Airbus A320s to a previous MRO agreement, as well as installations of satellite direct broadcast TV in Qatar’s 15 A330s. Under a Total Engine Support agreement, Lufthansa Technik’s engine service outfit in Hamburg will service the IAE V2500 engines on the A320s. The second agreement covers installation of Rockwell Collins Tailwind 560 TV systems in the A330s.
The executives sealed the deals during a ceremony yesterday morning at the Qatar Airways chalet here. Lufthansa Technik has plenty of experience in both areas covered by the Qatar Airways agreements. The company installed its first live TV system, in a VIP A340, five years ago and serves as an authorized warranty shop for a range of engines produced by General Electric, CFM International, Pratt & Whitney and IAE.
