Legacy Aviation Services has hired Russ Hampton as a senior service technician at its Clarence E. Page Municipal Airport facility in Yukon, Okla. Hampton joins Legacy with more than 25 years of repair and maintenance technical experience on all types of aircraft from single-engine piston through large corporate jet. He also has many years of supervisory experience as a shop supervisor for Commander Aircraft as well as a Gulfstream-owned service center in Oklahoma. The Twin Commander is a specialty of Legacy Aviation.

Aircell is offering the UCS 5000 all-in-one smart router and media server. John Wade, Aircell’s executive vice president and general manager, said, “UCS is a single backbone system that manages and simplifies the way passengers access today’s vast menu of capabilities.” In addition to router functionality and interfaces, the unit offers a media server, in-flight entertainment service and “the industry’s only fully automatic update capability,” he said.
Intertrade, a Rockwell Collins company that supplies recertified used aircraft parts, expanded its product offerings to include engine parts. Intertrade’s primary market focus is material for the CFM56-5B, CFM56-7B, V2500-A5 and PW4000, among other next-generation engines. The company offers customers a variety of support options, including consignment and outright sale. Intertrade’s new engine division will be located in Boca Raton, Fla. The company has appointed Jeff Plas, an engine expert and industry veteran, to lead the business.
Dallas Airmotive plans to expand its support services in the northeastern U.S. The company will add regional field service representatives and a mobile response vehicle capable of on-site inspections, repair work and carbon seal replacements at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., one of the region’s most popular sites for business and general aviation aircraft. Additionally, the company is adding field service representatives throughout the region to improve response time and reduce ground time for repairs.
Drake Group, an engineering services provider, recently received STC approval for deploying parachutists and cargo under parachute from a Gulfstream GV/G550. In addition to single and tandem sport parachuting, the STC allows the delivery of emergency medical supplies, survival equipment and specialized critical replacement components by static line at great distances from the aircraft departure point. The STC, a multiple certificate applicable to any GV or G550, requires no changes to the aircraft and consists of copyrighted AFM supplements.
Russell Ford became CEO of StandardAero just before NBAA 2013 and he already has a firm grasp of the direction the independent provider of engine and airframe maintenance and other services needs to go. The Dubai Aerospace Enterprise-owned global company, with more than 3,800 employees and $1.6 billion in annual revenue, needs to continue to find new products and new solutions.
BBA Aviation’s Ontic (Booth No. N3505) is growing. The company, which specializes in transitioning legacy parts manufacturing and distribution from OEMs to its own aftermarket production, has expanded both physically and through its range of products and services. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony September 25 it opened a new MRO facility in Singapore’s popular Seletar Aerospace Park, co-located with BBA Aviation’s Dallas Airmotive, which has established a Singapore Regional Turbine Center.
Banyan Air Service (Booth No. N4726), based at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Florida, is advising that aircraft equipped with the Magnastar C2000 digital telephone system should replace their systems as the December 31 phase-out of service nears. Banyan said it recently completed Magnastar replacements on a Bombardier Challenger, Hawker and Cessna Citation during routine maintenance inspections.
First-time NBAA exhibitor Specialty Bulb Co. (Booth No. C12639) is small compared to most of its neighbors on the convention center floor, but its size belies its significance. While the Bohemia, N.Y. company, located across the street from MacArthur Airport on Long Island, has only 12 employees and just sells one product, lighting, it does this for everything from Cessna 152s to Airbus A320s and Boeing 747s, to a diverse range of customers from weekend pilots to major airlines.
Ikhana Aircraft Services (Booth No. C7613) announced here at NBAA 2013 that it has received FAA STC and PMA approvals to remanufacture timed-out engine nacelles on Twin Otter turboprops made between 1965 and 1988.
The remanufactured nacelles have a new 45,000-hour/90,000-cycle-life limit for all DHC-6-100, 200, and 300 series aircraft. Twin Otters have a structural fatigue limit of 66,000 hours or 132,000 cycles.
