Business aircraft manufacturers here at EBACE this week will be hoping to disprove suggestions that demand for new airplanes in Europe from current (or prospective) operators will decline. While Bombardier Aerospace foresees the region remaining second only to North America in its long-term requirements, equipment supplier Honeywell has detected less short-term enthusiasm. Globally, both companies’ market forecasts predict delivery of almost 10,000 new business aircraft in the next 10 years.

China’s commercial aviation manufacturing sector is challenged to match Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer in building large passenger jets. But it faces brighter prospects in building general aviation and business aircraft, according to a Rand study released last month.

Sales and product support specialist Hawker Pacific is due to hand over the keys of the 200th GippsAero GA8 Airvan to a customer in Asia this week. The sale came about as a direct result of a sales tour, which secured significant interest for the aircraft from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Cirrus Aircraft (Booth A05) is here exhibiting an SR22T light piston single, hoping to lure local high net-worth individuals with a new-generation light aircraft and accompanying services. Cirrus Malaysia Singapore, the dealer Cirrus Aircraft has appointed for these countries, is just starting to sell SR20s and SR22s. Under the Wings Over Asia organization, it is to offer a service center at Seletar Airport.

Pilatus Business Aircraft is displaying a mock-up of its twinjet PC-24, which combines light-jet operating economics with super-midsize jet capabilities.

Pilatus Business Aircraft is displaying a mock-up of its twinjet PC-24, announced earlier this year at EBACE, here at its NBAA booth (No. C12216) near the indoor static display. A prototype is currently under construction and is expected to fly late next year and certification and first customer deliveries are anticipated in 2017. Three aircraft will be used in the flight test program.

Hartzell Engine Technologies (Booth No. C7630) has been selected to supply the alternator for the $1.96 million Cirrus Aircraft SF50 Vision single-engine personal jet. Hartzell will provide its 140-amp ES-6904 model for the aircraft.

Hartzell Engine president Mike Disbrow said the company worked closely with Cirrus and engine maker Williams International “to meet the electrical power requirements of the SF50’s systems and advanced avionics.” Williams is providing its 1,800-pound thrust FJ33-5A engine for the jet.

Moscow-based training organization ViraZH has ordered 79 Skyhawks to re-equip its flight schools throughout western Russia. Under an agreement signed today at the JetExpo show at the Russian capital’s Vnukovo-3 Airport, Cessna will start supplying the piston singles in next year’s third quarter and by the time all the deliveries have been made ViraZH will be fielding one of the world’s largest Skyhawk fleets.

Appearing for the first time in Latin America at Cessna’s LABACE display is the single-engine turboprop Grand Caravan EX. The new version of the turboprop single offers increased power through its Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 867-shp engine to better serve hard-to-access areas. It delivers 25 percent more horsepower than the original Grand Caravan, which translates into a 38-percent increase in rate of climb, a 340-foot (106-meter) reduction in takeoff distance and a 12-knot faster cruise speed.

Kestrel Aircraft has selected the Garmin G3000 glass-panel touchscreen suite as the primary avionics offering for its in-development single-engine turboprop. Kestrel CEO Alan Klapmeier made the announcement at AirVenture yesterday and offered a program update.
