Lufthansa Technik yesterday introduced an upgraded NICE (networked integrated cabin equipment) in-flight entertainment and cabin management system focused on new ways to control the various systems.

The improved wireless controller is a hand-held touch-screen device featuring a color graphical user interface. When not in use, it can now be mounted in four different cradle types for storage and recharging.

With the software upgrade, in-flight entertainment and cabin management functions can now be controlled from an iPod or iPhone, including lighting levels and audio/video programs.

For passengers who favor a more traditional cabin control device, there is a choice of customized capacitive switches.

On display at the Lufthansa Technik booth (No. 343) is the company’s improved high-definition NICEview, 3-D moving map display. The upgraded NICE control devices, including iPod and iPhone, allow remote switching between various moving-map offerings.

In further news, Lufthansa Technik’s NICE, developed at Lufthansa Technik’s Innovation Center in Hamburg, is now available as a retrofit item for customers operating Bombardier’s Global and Challenger 600 business jet lines. NICE is standard equipment on new Challenger 300s and optional on new Global 5000 and Global Express XRS jets.

NICE is offered as an optional part of a D-check package by Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport in Europe and in the U.S. by Midcoast Aviation in St. Louis, Missouri. The D-check includes a total cabin refurbishment and exterior repaint.
