Private Chinese Airline to Use Swiss Techs
Swiss-based independent maintenance organization SR Technics and Okay Airways, China’s first privately owned airline, have agreed to form a maintenance joint venture in Tianjin, China. The new facility will provide aircraft services, fleet technical management and component support for Boeing and Airbus aircraft operated by both existing airlines and new start-ups.
SR Technics chairman Frank Turner said the partnership with Okay would be a first step in establishing a presence in China. The plan is to attract low-cost carriers at an early stage in their development while providing an alternative source of technical services for existing Chinese airlines. To help it expand its presence in the Asia/Pacific market, meanwhile, SR Technics has established a new Asia Pacific Advisory Board.
