It was no big secret before this year’s NBAA Convention that Piper would be announcing plans for a single-engine jet, and indeed Piper did unveil its PiperJet on October 17. At the time, Piper had not yet selected an engine manufacturer. Early last month at the AOPA Expo in Palm Springs, Calif., Piper revealed that a Williams International FJ44-3AP will power the PiperJet.

Cessna’s receipt of flight-in-known-icing certification for the Citation Mustang in early November means that the jet’s certification program is complete and it is time to remove the airplane from the In The Works list.
The first Mustang delivered will be used for customer demonstrations. Cessna plans to deliver 40 Mustangs next year, with the first delivery to a customer outside Cessna taking place early next year.
A day before Honda Aircraft formally announced that the HondaJet will use the GE-Honda HF120 engine, Spectrum Aeronautical announced that its new all-composite midsize Freedom S-40 jet will be powered by the HF120, at a thrust rating of more than 2,000 pounds. The stand-up-cabin Freedom will cruise at up to 435 knots, and fly 2,200 nm at up to 45,000 feet. Certification and entry-into-service is set for 2010.
Honda Aircraft and Spectrum Aeronautical both announced at the NBAA Convention that they will use the GE-Honda HF120 engine in their new business jets.
EADS Socata has appointed IndUS Aviation the authorized sales representative in India for its TBM 700 and 850 turboprop singles. The Indian company, which builds light aircraft at facilities in Dallas and Bangalore, India, will also establish a product and customer support operation for the TBM line in India.
One year after receiving FAA type certification for its SJ30 light jet, Sino Swearingen delivered the first customer airplane to Doug Jaffe of San Antonio, one of the early investors in the SJ30 program. The “J” in the model name stands for Jaffe, while the “S” is for designer Ed Swearingen, who began designing the jet in 1982 and launched the program in the late 1980s.
Boeing Business Jets is ready to offer a BBJ 3 based on the biggest and longest-range member of the new generation 737 family, the 737-900ER, and is about to convene the first 787 completion center conference to address requirements for VIP versions of the 787 Dreamliner.
An undisclosed Saudi Arabian company has ordered a VIP-configured Airbus A340-200. The aircraft, renowned as the world’s longest commercial airliner, is to be delivered green by the end of 2006 and sent for outfitting to an s-yet-unannounced completions center. Jeddah-based National Air Services will operate the A340 on behalf of he client. NAS already flies a fleet of VIP A320 jetliners, including one for the same customer.
Amman, Jordan-based executive charter operator Arab Wings has taken delivery of a new Cessna Citation XLS jet. The first aircraft of its type in the Middle East, the XLS has joined a fleet that already consists of a Bombardier Challenger 604 and a Raytheon Beech King Air 200. The aircraft fly out of Amman’s downtown Marka International Airport to points within the Middle East and into Europe.
During 2005 Gulfstream Aerospace sold 16 business jets in the Asia/Pacific region including the first large-cabin, long-range G450 and the second large-cabin, mid-range G200 to operate in the People’s Republic of China.
