Lufthansa Technik, one of the world’s largest independent centers for single-aisle and widebody bizliner interior completion and refurbishment, has opened a new facility in Basel, Switzerland. Basel is also home to competitor Jet Aviation.

As of October 1, Lufthansa Technik had taken full control of the former Swiss Air facility in Basel, where it expects to maintain and support single-aisle and widebody executive aircraft.

At the same time, Lufthansa Technik announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Bizjet of Tulsa, Okla., is expanding its capabilities to include outfitting of single-aisle bizliners. The new facility will begin outfitting Airbus A318 Elites with “individually customized” cabins beginning next year.

The expansion in Tulsa was described as a major step in relieving the pressure on the Hamburg, Germany center by taking on a growing share of single-aisle cabin finish work and allowing the parent company to focus on the widebody market.
