On November 14, New York City-based Swann Galleries will auction a letter and flag carried by Charles Lindbergh on his historic 1927 New York-to-Paris solo flight. In the letter to James Prince, treasurer of Wright Aeronautical, Lindbergh wrote, “I am glad to mail you this letter from Paris, upon completion of my nonstop flight from New York to Paris, the first time this flight has been accomplished.” Swann estimated it will sell between $50,000 and $75,000. The 48-star American flag (measuring approximately 8- by 11 in.) includes a typed note signed by Lindbergh, stating, “We carried this flag from New York to Paris, May 20 to 21, 1927.” The flag and statement along with a vintage signed photograph of Lindbergh standing in front of The Spirit of St. Louis are estimated to sell for between $30,000 and $40,000.
