FBO and Airport News: LANDMARK LOSES VNY BID

Aviation (The Jet Center) facility at 16200 Daily Drive. Los Angeles World Airports, which operates VNY, told AIN that a bidder has been selected but no information was available about the winner or its plans for the property. “I chose not to bid,” said Richard Michaels, vice president of marketing for Allied Capital’s Mercury Air Centers/Corporate Wings FBO chain. “It’s not a large facility, so a large FBO can’t go there.” Other constraints included limitations on the size of hangar that can be built and the rent structure and fuel flowage fees charged by the airport, he added. The many competitive FBOs at VNY “would make it hard to earn a fair return without having to gouge the public or the user. Another place to buy jet fuel is not what is needed.”
