The FBO landscape at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., continues to swirl with news that Signature Flight Support plans to acquire the Million Air White Plains FBO, in addition to the Jet Systems (formerly Avitat) FBO (for which it announced its intention earlier this year). Earlier this month, Landmark Aviation announced that it had upped its holdings at the dual-use airport with the purchase of independent FBO Panorama Flight Support.
As other Brazilian general aviation airport proposals fight paperwork battles, Aerovale will finish earthmoving next month and begin paving its 5,000- by 98-foot Category V runway, to meet an opening date of May 30. The airport is in Caçapava, next to São José dos Campos, and 66 miles from São Paulo and 198 miles from Rio de Janeiro–a location that might make the planned 320,000-sq-ft of ramp space a favored option for business jets visiting Brazil for the World Cup in June and July.

Lockheed Martin (Stand 1975) is installing its WindTracer windshear and turbulence-detection system at Dubai International Airport (DXB), where it will be used to detect aircraft wake vortices, thus allowing for increased runway utilization. WindTracer is a long-range, 3-D-scanning pulsed doppler lidar-based system.

This year’s Dubai Airshow marks the start of a new era in the event’s growth as one of the key dates in the aviation calendar. Having been under development for several years, the move to a new site here at Dubai World Central/Al Maktoum International Airport has been accomplished seamlessly. The move not only provides the show with a purpose-built facility with expanded road access, but also frees the former location at the busy Dubai International Airport from the burden of having to shut down airline operations during the daily flying display.
With eight civil airports boasting IATA designations, it’s reasonable to ask why there are so many facilities in a country the size of the UAE. Partly, this is because five of the seven emirates Abu Dhabi (3), Dubai (2), Fujairah (1), Ras al-Khaimah (1) and Sarjah (1) have the demand. The other two–Ajman, at 259 sq km the smallest, and Umm al-Quwain, the least populous–do not.
DC Aviation-Al Futtaim (DCAF), a joint venture between Germany’s DC Aviation and the Dubai-based Al-Futtaim group, recently opened the first FBO at Dubai World Central Aviation City. The venture will capitalize on Al-Fattaim’s Middle East presence and DC Aviation’s reputation as a private aviation services provider.

With its latest addition, Landmark acquired a 20,000-sq-ft hangar, for a total of approximately 96,000 sq ft of heated community hangar space on nearly 26 acres of property.
