Air BP announced several service initiatives to support business aviation operators heading to Brazil for the World Cup tournament that begins next month. At all 16 airports where it operates in the host country, Air BP will institute a “fast-track” fuel service, which will guarantee the arrival of a refueler within 20 minutes of an aircraft’s landing, given three hours’ advance notification, or alternatively, will allow operators to book predetermined fueling time according to their schedules.

BBA Aviation’s flight support division, which includes Signature Flight Support and airline refueler Asig, saw an 8-percent increase in revenue. “The signs of recovery in business and general aviation in North America continued, with movements up 4 percent in the first quarter,” the company noted. “Weakness continued in our other major markets, with European business and general aviation movements flat and commercial movements down 2 percent in North America and Europe.”

To support its growing FBO consultancy business, Aviacare has opened an office at Cannes Airport in the South of France. The three-year-old business is positioned to support both the European FBO network and what it says is growing demand for its services from Africa. The company consulted for Lagos, Nigeria-based Evergreen Apple last year on matters relating to FBO services, design and management, and has helped establish business aviation services in other countries on the African continent.

Private-aviation catering provider Air Culinaire has augmented its Florida network with the establishment of another company-owned and -operated kitchen. The location, three miles from Miami International Airport (MIA), is the third in the Sunshine State for the Universal Weather & Aviation subsidiary. The new location will supply aircraft operating at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Fort Lauderdale Executive, Opa-Locka Executive, Kendall-Tamiami Executive and MIA.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has designated Reina Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba, as the second international authorized pre-clearance location for general aviation aircraft transporting up to 19 passengers and crew. Ireland’s Shannon Airport was the first to receive the approval, in March 2010.

Quintessentially Aviation Handling has opened a new executive passenger and crew terminal facility at Ireland’s Shannon International Airport. The 1,750-sq-ft terminal includes an executive passenger lounge, as well as an airside crew rest lounge complete with shower facilities, satellite TV, Netflix, Wi-Fi, complimentary catering and modern Swiss furnishings. The terminal is also equipped with its own air bridge.

After reaching an agreement with Los Angeles World Airports, Atlantic Aviation has begun construction of the first corporate aircraft storage hangar at Los Angeles International Airport, where the company already operates an FBO. The $7.8 million 36,500-sq-ft general aviation hangar is scheduled for completion early next year and will be able to accommodate up to four large-cabin business jets. According to the company, the hangar is already sold out, and the company plans to offer transient space as available.

Landmark Aviation has purchased Midlantic Jet Aviation, the sole aviation services provider at New Jersey’s Atlantic City International Airport. The location and its U.S. Customs presence is open 24/7, and its 5,000-sq-ft terminal features a passenger lounge, crew lounge and snooze room, crew car, flight-planning room with WSI weather tracking and conference room. The FBO also has 65,000 sq ft of heated, video-monitored hangar space.

After two years, Chicago-area DuPage Airport has finished a $4.2 million upgrade of its FBO, which is open 24/7. Among the improvements to the facility–the lone provider at the airport–are new passenger entrances leading to an updated lobby with newly renovated restrooms, crew lounges and upgraded U.S. Customs facilities. Additions include a crew kitchen and dining lounge, theater room, fitness center with cardio workout equipment and weights, and a quiet room with sleeping accommodations.

Adding to its locations in New York (Long Island MacArthur Airport) and New Orleans (Lakefront Airport), Hawthorne Global Aviation Services will officially open its first newly built FBO this month, at Chicago Executive Airport. Construction began a year ago on the Shell-branded facility, which will compete with Signature and Atlantic. The airport is home to 100 private jets and turboprops, and sees 90,000 operations a year.
