Landmark Aviation, The Carlyle Group’s FBO and maintenance business, is pursuing global growth. Having rebranded two of its three components under the Landmark identity last fall, president Shawn Vick said the company has adopted a “structured approach” to expansion through mergers, acquisitions and partnerships.
Vitesse, an Indianapolis flight services firm, purchased the TXI Aviation FBO, charter and maintenance company at Dallas Love Field. The move expands Vitesse’s maintenance capabilities to support its “strategic jet partnership” programs and marks the company’s entry into the FBO business.
Early last month the San Diego Regional Airport Authority board voted seven to two to put to a county-wide vote this November whether to obtain land for a new civil airport at MCAS Miramar. The Strategic Planning Commission looked over many possible sites and finally chose a 3,000-acre tract at Miramar as the best option for serving San Diego’s air-transportation needs.
Based at Fort Worth Meacham International Airport, FBO Texas Jet recently added two new 12,000-sq-ft hangars. Texas Jet now has 17 hangars at Meacham, bringing the total area under roof to 275,000 sq ft. Enclosed parking is available to keep the brutal Texas sun from overheating customer cars. Texas Jet also offers cabin cooling, lav service, a fitness center and customs (with prior notice).
Germany’s newest FBO is Jet Aviation’s facility at Dusseldorf International Airport, completed just in time to welcome visitors to the 2006 World Cup games in nearby Cologne, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen. The FBO facility is an addition to Jet Aviation’s existing maintenance operation at Dusseldorf. The two-story FBO terminal includes lounges, conference rooms and offices and offers in-house customs and immigration processing.
Rectrix Aerodrome Centers is building a new FBO facility with hangars at Florida’s Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport. “We’re hoping to open in late fall,” said Kevin Bradley, general manager of the company’s Hyannis, Mass. FBO. Rectrix’s Hyannis facility opened last September, bringing a new level of service to Barnstable Municipal Airport-Boardman/Polando Field.
A new FBO terminal is under construction at Montego Bay Sangster International Airport in Jamaica. The 4,500-sq-ft IAM Jet Centre-Montego Bay will offer in-house customs and immigration processing as well as typical FBO amenities such as a private meeting room, high-speed Internet access and covered, discrete access to ground transportation.
Anchorage, Alaska-based FBO Great Circle Flight Services purchased Passur’s Portal, Pulse and inSight products to help market its services to potential customers and provide additional services to existing customers. Web-based Portal provides access to Pulse, which includes revenue and operations modules and inSight, Passur’s flight-following system with terminal-area tracking, aircraft movement and ETAs for arriving aircraft.
Montgomery Aviation, an Avfuel-branded FBO at Indianapolis Executive Airport in Indiana, recently installed a 100-foot-wide, 33-foot-high canopy on the ramp side of its new terminal building to protect arriving and departing passengers and fligt crews from inclement weather. The FBO also has 19,000 sq ft of hangar space and tenant office space in the new building.
