Eurocontrol Seeks Accurate Data for ETS Emissions

Eurocontrol is trying to improve the accuracy of the ETS Support Facility, which is intended to give so-called small emitters a relatively easy way to calculate carbon dioxide emissions for the purposes of compliance with the European Union’s controversial emissions trading scheme. It is asking operators to provide updated fuel-burn data by September 1 for 265 aircraft types for which the ETS Support Facility currently has inaccurate performance data. This includes 17 business jet types–Bombardier Challenger 600 series, Global Express, Global 5000 and Learjets 31, 35, 40, 45, 55 and 60; Cessna Citation Excel, Sovereign and X; Gulfstream III and G150; and Dassault Falcon 10, 20 and 50. The European Business Aviation Association is urging operators to cooperate fully with Eurocontrol’s request for information so as to make the ETS Support Facility more viable. Submissions (sent via email) must include the aircraft’s registration number, departure and destination airports, ICAO aircraft type designator, block fuel consumption, total APU fuel burn (if applicable), off-blocks date and time and on-blocks date and time. In the long term, Eurocontrol will update aircraft fuel burn data regularly based on actual operational data. In the short term, it is prioritizing corrections for types that are not currently “optimally modeled.”
