Hosting a record turnout of some 1,900 people, NBAA held a regional forum at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport today, with Jet Aviation devoting a hangar and much of its ramp space to hosting the 31 static-display aircraft at the New York-area gathering. There were 87 exhibitor booths at the one-day event. During the opening session, NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen noted that 100 communities in the U.S. have lost commercial air service since the start of the recession and that the message from the industry’s No Plane, No Gain campaign is getting through in Washington, D.C. “Some 25 percent of House and Senate elected officials have joined the GA Caucus to say, ‘I support this industry, which generates $150 billion and 1.2 million jobs.’” Bolen also noted that about a dozen states so far have actively proclaimed their support for general aviation month. On the state of the industry, Bolen said, “Things have quit getting worse; they’ve stabilized. Momentum is on our side.” Emphasizing the importance of local action by the people engaged in business aviation, he told the assemblage, “Let’s take advantage of it and promote business aviation.”
