A program intended to allow emergency response agencies to quickly identify, locate and coordinate helicopter assets is now available at Helicopter Association International's (HAI) Web site. The program has been in development since Hurricane Katrina "highlighted the shortcomings in emergency response contribution," said HAI. The association encourages helicopter operators worldwide to participate in its first-responder database. "You tell us who you are, your company, the aircraft you have and their operational capability (IFR, night vision, EMS, external hook), their locations and a 24-hour contact." Registration is free and information can be updated any time. HAI emphasized that the first-responder database is not searchable by the public. "Even participating operators will not have the ability to search the database. Only HAI, as developer and manager of the database, has search capability."
