This year’s RAA Convention virtually coincides with the introduction of Tuscon, Arizona-based Universal Avionics’s new FlexPerf trip performance module, on display this week in the Montreal Convention Center. Designed to provide “advanced” fuel savings predictions for aircraft performance during climb, cruise and descent, the system works with Universal’s Waas/SBAS flight management system (FMS) and multi-mission management system (MMMS). Due for certification during this year’s second quarter, FlexPerf comes available with Universal’s next major software release, Software Control Number (SCN) 1001/1101.

FlexPerf features a “flexible” intelligent design that continuously records precise aircraft fuel burn during every phase of flight. Using that data, the system applies refinements to the baseline aircraft performance data stored in the FMS/MMMS. According to Universal, FlexPerf senses and combines into its algorithm even the smallest aircraft changes that could affect performance, such as new paint and engine health. The resulting calculations provide aircraft performance predictions. To assist with crew planning, it provides aircraft trajectory with ETA and fuel remaining for the entire flight.

Separately, Universal Avionics announced at the convention the launch of its new FlightAssure extended warranty program. Designed to help customers budget the cost of component repairs by extending the avionics’ protection plan, FlightAssure features a fixed price with an annual contract, full coverage on exchange and repair services and available loaner units. Component repairs include no fault found (NFF) removals, free outbound second-day air freight, removal and refit coverage and around-the-clock AOG emergency service.
