Engine 'got quiet' before Papillon helo crash

The sole survivor of the August 10 crash of a Grand Canyon air-tour Papillon AS 350B2 (see story on page 134) told attending paramedics that the helicopter “got quiet and fell from the sky,” according to the NTSB preliminary report. In response to a paramedic’s question, “Was the engine running?” the passenger said, “No, not at the end.” The investigation continues, and detailed examinations of the engine and airframe systems are planned.↧
