Boeing Business Jets celebrated the completion of the first BBJ for China’s Nanshan Jet at a ceremony yesterday at ABACE 2013 in Shanghai. “The Nanshan Group is an excellent example of a customer who understands the unique capabilities of the Boeing Business Jet and how this airplane addresses the needs of emerging Chinese global business,” said Boeing Business Jets president Steve Taylor.
The General and Regional Aviation Committee of the U.S.-China Aviation Cooperation Program is set to deliver a key report to officials at China’s CAAC aviation authority officials next Wednesday about general aviation operations in China. It is expected to represent a key step in opening up lower airspace in the country.
At the ABACE show last year, potential helicopter exhibitors were told that they had to truck their aircraft into the static display because of a ban on helicopters at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. That policy changed this year.
“On Sunday, a Bell 407 was the first civil helicopter ever to land here in Hongqiao,” said Roger Whyte, NBAA’s special counsel to the president. “It wasn’t easy to get permission, and it’s taken a long time to go through all the authorities to get permission, but we got it.”
JetNet iQ’s “state of the market” briefing presented yesterday at ABACE showed a clear snapshot of business aviation trends in Asia. “Out of the big three markets–North America, Europe and Asia Pacific–it is the Asia Pacific buyers who trend toward large-cabin aircraft,” said JetNet iQ director Rollie Vincent. “Bombardier and then Gulfstream are the top-two preferred aircraft brands in Asia.”
During a ceremony at ABACE 2013 yesterday, Beijing General Aviation Industry Base Investment Holding Co. (BGA) signed a contract for delivery of two Quest Kodiaks, with options for four additional aircraft, from Blue Eagle Aviation Investment Co. of Beijing, the exclusive distributor in China for the turboprop single. These Kodiaks–the first to handed over to a customer in China–will be based at Badalin Airport, near Beijing, and initially used for emergency disaster assistance, said Liu Mingde, BGA’s director of sales.
FlightSafety International and Lufthansa HNA Technical Training have signed a cooperative agreement to expand FlightSafety’s Gulfstream maintenance training programs in China. Lufthansa HNA Technical Training instructors will deliver the training, which will initially include theoretical and practical maintenance training for the Gulfstream G200, G450 and G550.
Dassault received FAA certification for its Falcon 2000S and 2000LXS, the company announced today. These approvals come just days after EASA gave its nod for the two new twinjets. Both models feature the EASy II flight deck and FalconCabin HD+ entertainment system. The first Falcon 2000S was delivered to a Turkish customer today, according to the French aircraft manufacturer.
Nextant Aerospace sealed its first retail sale of a 400XT to a Chinese customer today at ABACE. The Nextant 400XT–which is a remanufactured Beechjet 400A with new avionics, engines, paint and interior, as well as zero-timed components–was sold to Zhou Houquan, chairman of the Sichuan Provence-based Zhuling Group. According to Nextant, the deal was done entirely at ABACE. The $4.95 million jet will be delivered to Houquan this year, Nextant said.
Lufthansa Technik inked a deal today at ABACE to outfit the interior for Yunnan Jingcheng Group’s new, yet-to-be-delivered Boeing BBJ. Work to finish the green bizliner will start in November at Lufthansa Technik’s BizJet International facility in Tulsa, Okla. The fully completed VIP BBJ is scheduled to be handed over to Jingcheng in July 2014, according to the Hamburg, Germany-based aircraft maintenance and completions firm.
Qingdao Jiutian International Flight Academy signed a deal with Beechcraft Corp. at ABACE on Tuesday to purchase a King Air C90GTx. The twin turboprop, which will be used to train Chinese pilots, is due to be delivered in October, with Qingdao becoming the first private training academy in China to operate a King Air. “The C90GTx allows students to learn how to fly in a large, multiengine, pressurized, complex aircraft while offering flight schools the benefits of economical turboprop flight instruction in a very rugged and proven airframe,” Beechcraft said.
