Embraer Executive Jets’ Legacy 650 recently received type certification from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, paving the way for customer Premiair to put the aircraft into service. With the approval, all in-production Embraer Executive Jets are now certified in this country. When Premiair takes delivery of two Legacy 650s it has on order, the Indonesian charter operator will have eight Embraer jets in its fleet.

Revenues at General Dynamics’ aerospace division, which includes Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation, soared to nearly $1.78 billion in the first quarter, a $155 million increase from a year ago, according to financial results the company released yesterday. Segment profit in the quarter also climbed by $39 million, or 14.4 percent, to $310 million, thanks in large part to Gulfstream, though General Dynamics chairman and CEO Phebe Novakovic said Jet Aviation “made a contribution in the quarter.”

Diamond Aircraft is exhibiting a mockup of a DA50 single with a 450-shp Motor Sich-Ivchenko AI450S turboprop engine this week at Aero Friedrichshafen 2013 in Germany. This engine would improve the performance of the seven-seat airplane, which was announced in 2006 with a 275-hp diesel engine as the DA50 SuperStar. Since then the SuperStar’s development stalled and it has yet to be certified, even though this milestone was originally planned for mid-2010.

NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen gave a big thumbs down yesterday to legislation sponsored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) “that would single out one industry, general aviation, for a change in its established depreciation schedule.” Gillibrand’s proposal would extend the current five-year tax-depreciation schedule for general aviation aircraft to seven years.

Eurocopter performed a demonstration flight today with an “optionally piloted vehicle” (OPV) version of the EC145 light twin helicopter, aiming eventually at unmanned operations such as automated surveillance and cargo with any of its models. Secret flight-testing began early this month at an air force base in Istres, France.

Aviation trade group support is growing quickly for The Dependable Air Service Act, introduced yesterday by Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and John Hoeven (R-N.D.), which would permit the FAA to transfer funds between areas in the DOT budget and thus end sequestration-related furloughs of air traffic controllers. “Even with relatively clear weather, there have been more than 5,000 flight delays over the past three days,” double the tally from a year ago, Natca said.

Together with this launch, it is providing a limited invite code (BLACKJETIPHONE5000) that can be used to request a membership. BlackJet seat service is currently available in San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles and South Florida. Service to Chicago, Washington, D.C., Boston, Dallas and Seattle will be added this year.

Though its parent company Finmeccanica yesterday reported €786 million in losses last year, subsidiary AgustaWestland posted strong 2012 results that included revenues of €4.2 billion, new orders of €4 billion and an accumulated backlog of €11.87 billion, as well as earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation of €473 million. The helicopter manufacturer’s results reflected marginally improved results over its 2011 performance and also reflected a slight increase in research and development spending, to €506 million.
