EBACE Convention 2013

Pilatus PC24 cockpit

Is the new Pilatus PC-24 a light or midsize jet? That’s the question that has been baffling EBACE attendees ever since the twinjet was revealed on Tuesday. On one hand, the aircraft’s 17,650-pound mtow, nearly identical to that of the Embraer Phenom 300, places it firmly in the light-jet category, but its 501-cu-ft cabin volume suggests it is midsize, since it is well above the 325 cu ft in the Phenom.

Aerion

Aerion, which has been defining and refining its design for a supersonic business jet (SSBJ) for the past 11 years, is here at EBACE (Booth 7030) still quietly confident that it will someday be able to add the word “producer” to its résumé. To that end, a NASA F-15 has been flying this spring from Dryden Flight Research Center in California with an 80- by 40-inch section of Aerion airfoil attached to its belly.

Hangar8 has seen spectacular growth in Africa, mainly associated with oil, gas and mineral industries. The Hawker fleet is particularly busy in this region.

Last month London Oxford Airport-based Hangar8 welcomed two additions to its growing fleet of aircraft available for charter–a pair of Bombardier Global Express aircraft, operating from Oxford and London Luton Airport. The new jets strengthen Hangar8’s long-range fleet and highlight the company’s continued worldwide growth.

G650

A quartet of business jets–the Bombardier Learjet 75, Nextant 400XTi, Embraer Legacy 500 and Boeing BBJ3–made their debuts this week at EBACE 2013, while the Gulfstream G650 is at the show in Geneva for the first time with a full production interior (a G650 was, however, at EBACE 2012 without any interior).

Global Express

The static display area at EBACE 2013 in Geneva this week has lots to look at, and some aircraft really stand out. Whether it’s a unique paint scheme designed to attract the eye, an unusual configuration or even no paint scheme at all (but an awesome interior), these airplanes are worth a second look. Have a look and pick out your favorites.

Chad Trautvetter spoke with Trevor Esling of Gulfstream Aerospace, inside the Gulfstream G650, about the European Business Aviation Market at EBACE 2013

Charles Alcock spoke with Ed Bolen (NBAA) and Fabio Gamba (EBAA) about the current state of the industry.
